Building a brand world around the art of slowing down.
Client: Casa Lenta
Neighbourhood Coffee Concept, Lisbon
Brief.
Casa Lenta is a coffee shop in Lisbon built around a simple but deeply felt philosophy. Good coffee. Good people. Slow days. The physical space already had everything - the cobalt blue exterior against Lisbon's limestone facades, the hand-painted azulejo tiles behind the bar, the warmth of a place that genuinely understood what it meant to take your time. What Casa Lenta needed was a brand world and community strategy that could carry that feeling beyond the four walls of the café - attracting the right people, building a direct relationship with its community and creating the foundations for growth that felt completely aligned with what the founders had built.
Approach.
The work began with the brand world. Casa Lenta already had a name that said everything — slow house — and a tagline that said it again differently — Lisbon, Slowly. The opportunity was to build a visual and narrative identity that honoured that philosophy without making it precious or performative. Slow living as a genuine way of being rather than an aesthetic trend.
The visual identity was built around a confident typographic language… bold cobalt blue on warm cream, a wordmark with the character of something that has always existed on this Lisbon street, graphic elements that felt hand-drawn and considered rather than digitally perfect. The palette referenced Lisbon itself. The tiles, the light, the blue of the river on a clear morning.
The content ecosystem was designed to extend the café's atmosphere into the digital world. Not aspirational lifestyle content but observational and honest, the barista's hands, the light through the window at nine in the morning, two people sitting outside long after their cups are empty. Content that made you feel the pace of the place before you had ever visited.
The most distinctive element of the brand strategy was the Casa Lenta newspaper. A seasonal editorial publication — Lisbon Lately, Something to Share, Slow Living — designed to be read over a long coffee rather than scrolled through in thirty seconds. This was the centrepiece of a community strategy that turned the café from a place people visited into a brand people belonged to. A direct relationship with the community that existed entirely outside of the algorithm.
The commerce strategy explored how Casa Lenta could extend its world beyond the physical space. Branded merchandise that felt genuinely considered — the apron, the tote, the cup — designed to be worn and carried rather than bought as a souvenir. A model for events and cultural moments that brought the slow living philosophy to life in the evenings. And the foundations for a second location strategy built around the same brand world rather than the same menu.
Scope.
Brand positioning, messaging and naming concept — Packaging design - Visual identity direction — Social content direction and sample templates — Campaign creative direction.
Impact.
A café with a clear and ownable brand world that communicates its philosophy before a single word is read. A content ecosystem that feels like an extension of the physical space rather than a separate marketing exercise. A community strategy — anchored by the newspaper — that builds direct and lasting relationships with the people who love the place most. And a commerce model that creates revenue and meaning beyond the cup.
Casa Lenta is not trying to be everywhere. It is trying to be unforgettable to the right people. The brand world, the newspaper and the community strategy are designed to make that possible… one slow morning at a time.
